Dear CA Fraternity,
As the Melbourne Chapter of ICAI celebrates its 20th anniversary, I am filled with
immense pride and gratitude. It is remarkable to look back to 2006, when a simple
conversation among a few ICAI families at Lysterfield Lake sparked the idea of forming
a chapter in Melbourne. That idea soon took shape, and in 2007 the chapter was
formally inaugurated by ICAI President CA T. Manoharan, with senior leaders from CPA
Australia and CA ANZ in attendance. Their presence signalled early recognition of the
chapter’s potential and its place within the Australian professional landscape.
Two decades later, that small beginning has grown into a strong, vibrant, and highly
respected community of Indian Chartered Accountants in Melbourne. The chapter has
become a trusted platform for professional development, networking, and mutual
support—reflecting the values of ICAI and the aspirations of its members. One of the
chapter’s proudest achievements has been its role in strengthening pathways for ICAI
members in Australia, culminating in the Mutual Recognition Agreements with CA ANZ
and CPA Australia. These agreements fulfilled a key founding objective and opened
doors for countless professionals seeking global recognition.
The journey of the last 20 years has been shaped by the dedication and leadership of many. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all past Chairmen and committee members who have served the chapter with commitment and vision. Each committee has contributed to building a legacy of excellence—through CPD programs, professional
development initiatives, community engagement, and support for new migrants. Their collective efforts have ensured that the chapter remains relevant, forwardlooking, and
deeply connected to the needs of its members.
I also congratulate the current committee, led by Chairman CA Sujeesh Vijayan for carrying this legacy forward with renewed energy and purpose. Your initiatives continue
to strengthen the chapter’s engagement and reinforce the pride we share as ICAI members living and contributing to the professional fabric of Melbourne.
As we celebrate this 20year milestone, we honour not only the chapter’s achievements but also the spirit of community that has sustained it. May the next decades bring
continued growth, deeper collaboration, and even greater accomplishments for the Melbourne Chapter of ICAI.
