Dear Professional Colleagues,

Firstly, I would like to extend my warm wishes to all on the occasion of Chartered Accountants Day. July 1, 2019 was a landmark day in the History of our Institute of Chartered Accountants of India where we celebrated 70 years of its existence.

As the 13th Chairperson and 1st Woman Chairperson of the Managing Committee of the Melbourne Chapter of ICAI, I am extremely honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of leading this esteemed institution. The trust and confidence reposed in me by my colleagues in the managing committee fills me with joy and pride.

Leading the branch is a privilege which is accompanied with a lot of responsibilities. I have the good fortune of having a balanced team of experienced committee members bringing their expertise and new committee members bringing fresh perspectives, the support of ex-Chairman CA Anand Agarwal in the Managing Committee and the guidance and support of an Advisory Committee comprising of ex-Chairmen CA Sameer Manduskar, CA Amar Dutia and committee members CA Manish Hambarday and CA Vimal Gehlot. I believe we have a very capable and talented team to carry out the chapters strategic goals.

ICAI Vision 2030 sets out the strategic priorities as:

  • To be the world’s leading accounting body
  • A regulator and developer of Trusted and Independent Professionals
  • With World class competencies
  • In accounting, assurance, taxation, finance and business advisory services

In line with the vision, the main strategic initiatives of the Managing Committee will include

  1. Promoting the ICAI brand
  2. Conducting regular CPD sessions
  3. Organizing an International Seminar
  4. Having family events
  5. Continuation of Newsletter
  6. Launching the Buddy program
  7. Improving governance and risk management

There are many initiatives of the Chapter which provide avenues for participation and career growth. Some of them include writing articles in the newsletter, speaking at CPD events and networking   in addition to regular CPD events and family events.

During this year, we will be launching the buddy program to help new migrants overcome some of the challenges in getting their first jobs and to provide a forum for networking.

In line with the digital strategy of the ICAI, the Chapter launched the subscription model of collecting fees. Member portals will have information about payment history etc. We will also be launching live webcasts so that we can extend the advantage of attending CPD sessions to members in distant areas

We encourage you take advantage of these initiatives and I look forward to your active support and participation to make the events a grand success. I strongly believe that it is not I or YOU but it is WE who will be able to achieve our goals.

Kind regards
CA Anbu Mohan
